What Makes a Place Spiritualized?

You can't necessarily see it or touch it, but somehow there are places that carry a profound spiritual presence. On the flip side, there are others that have such a low vibration that you want to run home and take a very long shower. What makes certain places uplifting while others feel downward-pulling?

Last night my family and I returned from a trip to Sedona, Arizona for a little getaway. The place was downright exquisite, with majestic mountain ranges, diverse nature, and sunsets that will make your jaw drop. But there was something more there as well. There was a deeply profound sense of serenity, tranquility, and stillness. Sedona is also well known for its “energy vortexes” and has become a popular destination for spiritual seekers. From whatever thread you pull it, its spiritual presence is difficult to deny.

Some say that just as the human body has energy channels and chakras, the earth too has points where energy is concentrated. Our intentions also play a big role in shaping the subtle atmosphere of a place. Just imagine if someone were to build endless high-rises and theme parks at Mt. Shasta or Joshua Tree in California. You would still feel its presence, but a degree of its subtle vibrations would be lost. This also goes for places such as temples, where people come together again and again in prayer, meditation, or healing; over time the atmosphere shifts to that vibration.

The opposite is also true. Places filled with fear or anger, for instance, can feel like you are walking through a thick layer of mud. Sensitive people often feel this immediately when they enter a room or building.

The encouraging aspect of all this is that we are co-creators in our environment. We are constantly contributing to the spiritual atmosphere of the places where we spend the most time. Not everywhere you go will be like Sedona or Varanasi, yet over time even an ordinary room in your house can become a sanctuary.
