The Pursuit of Happiness Is Through Wisdom Swami Sri Yukteswar, the great yoga master and guru of Paramhansa Yogananda, lived in India from 1855 until 1936. In his book The Holy Science, he speaks about the natural love of the heart and how it can be awakened. This process involves the removal of eight particular inner tensions, which he calls “the meannesses of the heart”: hatred, shame, fear, grief, condemnation, race prejudice, pride of pedigree, and a narrow sense of respectability. With engaging candor, the author reveals the joy that blossoms as these “mean” traits in the heart are detected—and overcome. Whatever position you hold in society, wherever you are in your own soul search, these true-to-life stories and principles of spiritual psychology will help change your consciousness. Following the clues, you can rise above depression, conquer oppressive tendencies, and reclaim the bliss of your own higher Self.

Takeaways:

  • A new functional approach to introspection
  • Discovering the heart's natural love as a strength
  • Experiencing the joy of spiritual progress

About Darshan:

Darshan Jan Lotichius, born in the Netherlands, embarked on his spiritual journey at the age of 19. Since 1985, he was in close contact with Swami Kriyananda, who, with his authority as a direct disciple, guided him toward an ever-deepening understanding of the teachings on Self-realization—teachings brought to the West by Paramhansa Yogananda in the name of his guru, Swami Sri Yukteswar.

Darshan’s spiritual life has not developed in isolation but through the ups and downs of everyday life in society. With degrees in literature and music, he is the father of two children and has worked as a teacher and violinist both in Italy and abroad.

He currently resides in the Ananda Assisi community, from where he dedicates himself to sharing what he has learned with fellow spiritual seekers in Europe and the United States.
