Listening Beyond Sound

Listening Beyond Sound

In a busy world, being able to hear what is happening around us is a paramount advantage. We use the sounds around us to help us determine what actions we may need to take next, when to be alert, aware and occasionally we even need sound to help us calm down.  We may hear music we enjoy and react positively or conversely hear something new and have mixed emotions or even negative reactions. Furthermore, we use the sound of our voice throughout our lives to express our needs, voice our opinions and express beauty through song.

In many ways sound has the ability to have an immediate effect on our emotional state, calling us to action, inspiring us or even calming our nerves. While we are well versed in the action of hearing things and reacting, an alternate question must be asked: how good are we at listening? Yes, there's the type of listening that requires us to be present when others are speaking or when we're being given information for instance, in a school setting. But have you ever tried to listen to what's happening behind the sounds that are being made out in the world?

I'll grant you this may seem like a foreign concept due to the fact that we rely so heavily on our outward senses; receiving information externally and processing it internally. But what if I told you that your ears on the outside of your body are only a physical manifestation of a listening ability we all possess that goes much deeper than our ability to hear what's happening in our external environment.

The primordial sound of the entire universe is named Om, or expressed as AaaaUuuuuuMmmm. Many cultures and religions have reduced this simply to a hum, even Amen is a derivation of this universally recognized vibration. The best way to hear AUM is to listen deeply and this actually requires us to completely remove the sound of the outside world and focus our listening ability internally. Many who aspire to hear the sound of AUM intone the sound as a way of calling for it and listening for its response. AUM is often called the Mother tone or the great comforter. AUM has been in existence as long, probably much longer than our physical universe, and can be heard everywhere.

This leads us to the conclusion that AUM may very well be the resonant frequency on which all life, nay the entire universe is built upon. If all sound has its existence in one sound, then there is only one sound worth listening to. As it regards our physical world and existence, Scientists from differing disciplines keep arriving at the same inevitably: The Universe is vibration. The Name Universe is latin; meaning turned into one. That means Light and sound frequencies ranging from we can perceive with our human senses and the much greater range of frequencies that we need devices to measure, all have their birth in one origin.
