After serving the Roosevelt area for over 30 years, East West Books and Gifts has moved its premium selection of crystals and jewelry to the Edmonds neighborhood. We have a comprehensive collection of tumbled stones that can fit in your pocket, as well as larger specimens fit for display.

Curated and Intentional

Almost every year, members of East West Books & Gifts staff travel to Tucson, Arizona, for the world-renowned Tucson Gem, Mineral & Fossil Showcase. During this month-long gathering, crystal dealers, lapidary artists, and miners from around the world transform the city into an extraordinary marketplace unlike any other. The scale of the show is mind boggling; it is essentially 50 conventions happening simultaneously across 30 days.

Our buyers hand-select many of the crystals and gemstone jewelry you'll find in our store. We look for exceptional quality, distinctive beauty, and pieces that reflect the care and craftsmanship of the people who brought them to us. Healing With Crystals

Beyond birthstones, many faith traditions speak of the healing power of gems. Cultures and religions have used crystals in various ways, from India to Greece, Ancient Egypt to China. Vedic astrologers prescribed certain gems to increase or negate the effects of planets. Other traditions use crystals for physical healing, psychic powers, or to signify power and wealth.

With this great historical precedence, many superstitions have arisen, along with the opposing skepticisms. Outside of faith traditions, here are two very practical ways to think of the effects of crystals.

The first is the diamond wedding ring. Diamonds are the hardest stones, making them very durable and long lasting; exactly what the wearer would want for a marriage. Moreover, wedding rings have certainly prevented the approach of would-be suitors.

A second practical approach to crystals is simply the intention you have with wearing it or keeping it near you. Rose quartz, for example, is often thought of as "opening the heart." Whether the stone actually does that or not, if you keep it with you with that intention, every time you see that beautiful pink stone, you will remember to work on that quality.

Do You Carry Any _____?

Do Crystals Actually Heal People?

While many faith traditions mention crystals, and many people say they can feel energy from crystals, there is little scientific evidence to support the claim that crystals have direct healing properties. However, there are also many things science does not understand, such as the placebo effect. Still, a doctor would probably not prescribe a specific crystal for any ailment. That said, they do serve as great reminders for spiritual qualities we are working on. So, it all depends what you trust more: scriptures, scientists, or your own intuition?

Where do you get your crystals?

In terms of geography, the short answer is that our crystals come from all over the world, and we probably wouldn't be able to tell you where we got a specific crystal. However, many crystals only come from certain places, so that may narrow down the possibilities. In terms of commerce, we get our stones from crystal shows (Like the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show) or from local vendors.
